Analysis of an opening title: 'The Strangers'
The opening sequence for the strangers starts with a drive through the countryside filmed from a car driving through a street surrounded by hills. The shot shows lots of different houses using the 'fade in' and 'fade out' effect. As the car is driving through, theres a non-digetic sound, this is because a phone-call is taken place. The phone call is between a very shaken and frightened young boy and a very serious police officer, by the tone of the young boys voice you can tell he's distressed and that something severe has happened. The setting then immediately changes to the house where the disaster has taken place. There is then a panning shot used to show the damage on the car windscreen that has been shattered. Theres a gun shot hole in the windscreen and through the hole you can see the two boys standing there staring. There is slow music being played in the background, this is to raise tension along with the police phone call. A long shot is then used to show the two young boys entering the gruesome crime scene, cuts are used to show the blood covered knife, shot gun and blood splattered all over the walls. This immediately shows the audience that there was a gruesome murder in the house.
